Day 12: The breath as an anchor
Day 12 of 100
Good morning,
yesterday you watched how quickly attention wanders. Today you get the tool to gently bring it back: your breath.
Your routine today (about 6 minutes)
- Sit upright, feet flat on the floor. Don't set a timer — finish reading first.
- Close your eyes or lower your gaze. Take three deliberate breaths, slightly deeper than usual.
- Then let the breath flow naturally and rest your attention where you feel it most clearly — nose, chest or belly.
- When thoughts arrive (they will), silently note "thinking" and return to the breath. No commentary, no frustration.
- Stay for about five minutes. It doesn't matter how often you drift off — what matters is how often you return.
Why this works
The breath is always there, costs nothing and changes with your state. Every return to the breath is one repetition in the strength training of attention. After dozens of repetitions, coming back becomes a reflex — one that's available to you outside meditation too.
Small observation for the day: Notice once today how your breath changes when you're stressed — that's all you need to do.
See you tomorrow,
Zee
